Anthropic will restore global access to its Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models after the U.S. Department of Commerce lifted export restrictions that had blocked them earlier this month.
On Tuesday, the company announced it would begin gradually restoring access to its most advanced AI models. In a post on X, Anthropic said: "We have been notified that the Department of Commerce has lifted the export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5. We will begin restoring access tomorrow."
The U.S. government suspended access to the models earlier this month over national security concerns. On June 12, Anthropic was ordered to disable the models after vulnerabilities were found in safeguards designed to prevent misuse.
According to a letter reviewed by U.S. media, the Trump administration lifted the restrictions after concluding that Anthropic had worked closely with the U.S. government to address the identified risks.
The move reflects Washington's increasing oversight of advanced AI. OpenAI has also limited the release of its new GPT-5.6 model to a select group of approved partners at the request of the U.S. government.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman questioned the current approach, writing on X: "This still isn't quite the process we consider ideal."
